Launching the campaign on Sunday, Mr Shevchenko suggested he had been asked to start the appeal by a Ukrainian defence intelligence unit. Mr Shevchenko is a member of the popular "League of Laughter" troupe, and has posted videos mocking Russian attitudes towards the war since it began. Military experts say Rubaka drones are highly effective in destroying remote ground targets, and can cause significant damage to infrastructure, and disable lightly armoured vehicles. They are launched by catapult, and can carry warheads weighing up to three kilos. Rubaka kamikaze drones have been developed by Ukraine's military, and are shaped like a small two-bladed propeller plane. It has so far raised just over half its target of 10 million Ukrainian hryvnia - or around £212,000 - since it launched two days ago. Ukrainian comedian Vlad Shevchenko has launched a crowdfunding campaign to buy 18 Rubaka long-range drones for his country's army. Ukraine's army may have often depended on Western funding and supplies to fight off Russia's invasion - but it is now turning to crowdfunding as well.
